Things You'll Need:
* Woolite, or other detergent for delicates
* washing machine
* any type of heavy-duty rod like a shower curtain rod or closet rod OR clothes line
* box fan (optional)
Step 1
Set your washing machine to cold water and set the dial to the appropriate size load. My chenille blanket is a smaller throw and will only need to be cleaned on the small setting. Be sure you are about to wash your blanket on the GENTLE cycle.
Step 2
Add detergent and let machine fill with water with the lid open. When the machine is full, it will stop. Be sure that the water is cold before adding your blanket. Hot water will melt your chenille blanket!
Step 3
Dunk your blanket into the wash basket. Be sure to layer the blanket around evenly, especialy if your blanket is very large. The blanket should be the ONLY item in the washing machine! It is going to shed some fuzz that is difficult to remove from other items.
Close the lid and let the gentle cycle complete.
Step 4
Carefully remove the blanket from the wash basket. If your blanket has fringe, don't try to detangle it at this time or you'll end up making big knots.
Step 5
Hang your chenille blanket over your rod to dry. If you are using a shower rod, remove the shower hooks so your blanket does not snag and avoid taking a shower at this time. If you are using a closet rod, remove the hangers. Hang your blanket out on the clothes line in the evening when direct sunlight has passed below the treeline to avoid any accidents to your blanket. You could also drape your blanket over a kitchen chair.
You may also wish to set up a box fan to blow on your blanket in order to speed up drying time.
Step 6
When your blanket is fully dry, pick it up and take it outside. Give it a good shake to remove any loose fuzz. If your blanket has fringe, you may attempt to detangle it at this time.
